• Introduction: The LNK605DG-TL is an offline, 200 mA current, constant frequency, buck regulator. It is a high performance, monolithic, low cost and low power consumption switch-mode power supply designed for flyback and buck topologies. It features a PWM-like control, open-loop current mode control and programmable current-mode control. This offline switcher features a high efficiency, and low stand-by current operation at light load operation. It also has adjustable frequency, soft start, and fast transient responses. The LNK605DG-TL is capable of driving an inductor with 200mA of load current, and also operates off of a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V.

• Working Principle:
  • The LNK605DG-TL integrates an error amplifier, on-chip power MOSFET, current synchronous rectification, and an external loop compensation circuit into a single package. This makes the chip very versatile, since it is able to provide an adjustable output voltage. The device also includes a "soft start" feature which prevents large inrush currents during power-up, and a fault protection feature which will shut down the converter in the event of an overcurrent fault condition.
  • The LNK605DG-TL operates in a constant frequency, current mode, or PWM-like mode to regulate the output voltage and current. In constant frequency mode, the chip has two operating states: a current controlled state where the inductor is forced to regulate the output voltage, and a voltage controlled state where the output current is regulated by controlling the switch duty cycle. In PWM-like mode, the output voltage is regulated by controlling the duty cycle. The output voltage is determined by the peak inductor current, switch duty cycle, and the value of an external compensation capacitor.
  • The LNK605DG-TL also has an adjustable soft start, and a fault protection circuit which will shut down the converter in the event of an overcurrent fault condition. The chip also includes a low power standby mode, which reduces the current consumption of the converter when it is not in active mode.
