LP38693SDX-3.3 Application Field and Working Principle

The LP38693SDX-3.3 is a 3-terminal adjustable low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator IC. This regulator IC provides up to 80 mA output current and features very low dropout voltage, allowing higher output voltages to be provided in space-restricted applications. Working Principle

The LPO38693SDX-3.3 linear voltage regulator works by allowing a current flow from the input voltage, called the load current, through an internal resistor, and dropping a certain amount of voltage across the resistor. This voltage is equal to V(out) - V(in) and is called Dropout (Vdo). This voltage drop across the load is then compared to a fourth terminal, the adjustment terminal (Vadj), the voltage of which is determined by an external resistance circuit.

The output voltage (Vout) is then calculated by subtracting the voltage at the adjustment terminal, Vadj, from the input voltage, Vin, and adding on the dropout voltage, Vdo. This equation reads as: Vout = Vin - Vadj + Vdo.
