LP38858SX-0.8 is a three-terminal adjustable low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator that features an extremely low dropout voltage of 0.75V at 1.5A of load current. The input bias circuit is responsible for controlling the quiescent current of the device and providing an adjustable output voltage. The regulator stage controls the output voltage and limiting the amount of released output current.The input bias circuit contains three external components — two resistors and a capacitor — which are used to set the desired output voltage. The internal devices limit the output current by sensing the voltage drop across the output and re-setting the bias circuit to prevent the output voltage from going too far out of regulation.The output current is set by the location of the sense resistors on the input/output rail. When the current limit is reached, the resistor’s voltage increases, deceasing the input to the gate of the main voltage regulator. This reduces the output voltage, limiting the amount of current flowing through the device.The LP38858SX-0.8 is designed to be extremely easy to use, with all the necessary inputs and outputs on a single footprint. The device’s adjustable output allows it to be used in a wide variety of applications. It also has excellent noise and PSRR specifications, providing a reliable solution for noise-sensitive applications.The LP38858SX-0.8 provides a cost-effective solution to a wide range of applications and is available in a small SSOP-8 package.
