The LTC3864EDE#TRPBF is a 2-Phase, DC/DC synchronous step-down switching controller for high voltage, high current applications such as point-of-load (PoL) regulators and the DC/DC converter. It features advanced current limit, programmable Soft Start, multiple output synchronization and supports programmable, dynamic frequency spread spectrum operation.
The LTC3864EDE#TRPBF has been designed to accommodate the higher current densities and operating temperatures of modern power systems. It is specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements of automotive, industrial, PoL and medical applications.
The LTC3864EDE#TRPBF provides a cost-effective approach for implementing high-power, isolated and non-isolated, 2-phase voltage regulator designs. Using the LTC3864EDE#TRPBF, a 4A/phase or an 8A/phase step-down switching controller can be implemented in a very small board footprint.

Working Principle
The LTC3864EDE#TRPBF synchronous step-down switching controller is based on a 2-phase architecture for high voltage/high current applications. It features operating frequency synchronization of up to 500 kHz, programmable dynamic frequency spread spectrum (DFSS) operation, programmable Soft Start, over-current protection, and programmable loop compensation.
When enabled, the DFSS mode allows a user to program the frequency of the switching waveforms to operate up to 500 kHz, allowing flexibility in the system design and improved efficiency. Other features include two high current outputs with an adjustable current limit, programmable frequency synchronization between the two phases, ability to trim the maximum switch on current and an LED drive circuit.
The current limit is adjustable from 100mA to 8A when in constant current limit mode, further improving efficiency and allows a variety of output combinations. The user can also set the timing of the waveforms and tune the loop compensation for optimum dynamically stable control loops, fast transient response and maximum power efficiency.
