General Description

The LTM4641IY DC DC Converters are designed to operate in an extremely wide input voltage range and to make efficient conversions between higher and lower voltage sources. The I/O modules are made up of two individual high-performance buck converters, each with its own enable and power selection, allowing either buck converter to be bypassed and the other to provide a direct output from the input voltage. The dual buck configuration also allows for redundancy in applications requiring high levels of reliability.

Working Principle

The LTM4641IY DC DC Converter works on the principle of Buck-boost conversion. The output voltage is then adjusted by varying the duty cycle of a switch, known as the “boost” switch, which is connected in parallel with the output voltage. This allows the output voltage to be adjusted both up and down, as required.

The converter uses a pair of MOSFET switches (the bucks and boosts) to control the output voltage. When the buck switch is turned on, a current flow occurs from the input to the output, increasing the output voltage. When the boost switch is turned on, a current flow occurs from the output back to the input, decreasing the output voltage. This process of buck-boost conversion is repeated until the output voltage is within the desired range.

The LTM4641IY DC DC Converter also has a built-in current-limiting feature, which is designed to protect the device from overloads. In an event of overload, the current-limiting feature will shut down the buck and boost switches to prevent further damage.
