The LYT4325E3 is a highly efficient offline synchronous switch-mode power supply and power factor correction (PFC) controller IC. This versatile IC helps accelerate time-to-market and reduce design complexity for AC/DC offline power systems. The controller can operate over a universal input voltage range of 95-265VAC and support a wide output power range of up to 200W with excellent power factor correction and minimum component count.
The LYT4325E3 doesn’t require an isolation and is suitable for both flyback and single-ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC) topologies. To support low-cost designs, the controller features an internal high-voltage start-up current source, open-loop current sensing and has no minimum required number of output capacitors. Device solutions with the LYT4325E3 integrate all protection functions and fault reporting for easy system set-up and verification.
Moreover, the IC has an extensive feature-set for advanced control of AC-DC offline systems including active PFC, peak current mode control, optimized start-up, wide frequency operation, remote on/off and low power Standby mode. The device has three operating modes: continuous conduction mode (CCM), discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and Power Factor Correction Mode (PFC) with valley modulation for enhanced system efficiency. The device further operates over an extended temperature range of -40ºC to 110ºC.
The LYT4325E3’s open loop valley modulation PFC scheme includes all the components necessary to obtain a regulatory power factor of better than 0.99, which is suitable for off-line, flyback non-isolated applications. The detector module features an adjustable peak current threshold that sets the frequency of the maximum power transfer valley operation, depending on input voltage and load conditions. The two integrated circuits that make up the valley modulation scheme also provide a valley current sensing and also a boost PWM comparator.
The controller also has a frequency jitter feature with On-Time jitter delay by reducing switching losses. All the start-up and valley modulation does not need any external components and the built-in integrated low-power protection function is designed for no-load and light-load operation in off-line applications. The built-in variable soft-start will ensure rapid, smooth and soft system start-up. An internal bootstrap circuitry with built-in charge pump is provided for higher efficiency and improved EMI performance. Additionally, an active valley switching modulation causes no audible click from the start-up process.
To improve the system efficiency and reduce EMI in single-stage converters, the LYT4325E3 automatically adjusts the power switch voltage to the lowest possible operation point. This reduces switching losses and minimizes EMI kickback noise. The peak current modulated valley operation enables the device’s peak current-modulated technique to maintain high power factor values throughout the load range as defined by ITU Standard and EN/IEC 60950 EMC standard.
The LYT4325E3 is ideal for applications such as televisions, appliances and LED drivers.
