LYT4316L Application Field and Working Principle
The LYT4316L is an offline flapper chip with an ac-dc converter and an offline switcher integrated. It is an offline flyback switch power supply solution that integrates numerous functions and provides high efficiency with a wide output range and various protections such as input undervoltage lockout, peak current limit and output short-circuit protecting.
The LYT4316L is similar to the traditional offline flyback converter regarding the circuit structure. The core of the converter is a primary side power switch, an auxiliary switch, a power transformer, a rectifier, an output filter capacitor, and an error amplifier. The functioning principle of the LYT4316L also shares a lot of similarities with the traditional offline flyback converter.
In normal working status, the primary side power switch is continuously turning on and off in a certain period, being controlled by frequency pre-setting. The transformer becomes a primary side device and generates a rectangular voltage waveform which is rectified by the rectifier and current flowing in the output filter capacitor. When the saturation of the transformer is reached, the current flowing through the primary side power switch will be cut off and the auxiliary switch will turn on. When the auxillary switch and primary switch are turned off, the energy stored in the transformer can be output as output voltage.
The output voltage of the offline flyback converter can be adjusted by changing the duty cycle of the loop or pulse width of the primary side power switch. The on-time of the main switch is proportionally controlled by the error amplifier which directly compares the feedback voltage from the output to the voltage reference. When the output voltage is higher than the setting value, the error amplifier will reduce the duty cycle of the primary side power switch to reduce the output voltage. Meanwhile, when the output voltage is lower than the setting value, the error amplifier will increase the duty cycle to output higher voltage.
The LYT4316L provides high-speed protection including input undervoltage lockout, peak current limit and output short-circuit protection, which enhance the reliability and performance of the flyback converter. Moreover, the device also has a unique brownout protection in addition to the input undervoltage lockout protection which operates during regulation and protects the device against short term disturbances. The LYT4316L not only features high efficiency rating of up to 92%, but also utilizes advanced integrated PFC technology and is capable of varying the input voltage up to 200-240V.
The LYT4316L flyback converter is very popular in many professional applications such as LED backlights, LED lighting, security cameras, overloads, home appliances, etc. The wide input range makes it ideal for applications that must operate in low voltage conditions, and its single-stage offline design eliminates the need for an AC-DC rectifier, thus reducing component costs and improving system safety.
