TVS - Diodes

MAP4KE10A is a state-of-the-art uni-directional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode in a low-profile SMA package outline. It is an ideal flat leaded device for resettable protection of automotive circuits, consumer electronics, portable devices and other applications. It is designed to provide highly reliable over voltage and ESD protection over a wide temperature range (−55°C to + 150°C).

MAP4KE10A can operate in a wide range of applications, such as automotive circuit protection, consumer electronics, portable devices, and other high-speed application circuits. It offers Zenershocke protection for electronic systems from high frequency surges and contains ESD rating up to ±8kV.

The MAP4KE10A is also suitable for use in high-speed applications such as automotive and consumer electronics, providing a low-profile SMA package outline. For applications that require communication bus protection, the MAP4KE10A is the ideal choice for automotive CAN, FlexRay, MOST, and LIN systems.

This device widespread use in remote keyless entry (RKE) systems, radar systems, bluetooth and wlan systems, and USB/HDMI/VGA/audio applications. It offers outstanding performance for lightning and surge protection in power train and body control modules.

Working principle

MAP4KE10A uses a highly robust, passive uni-directional polymer TVS diode to provide protect on high-speed circuits from overvoltage. It absorbs transients in a line-to-ground capacitance which is generated by electrostatic discharge, lightning or power surge. The device consists of an integrated, positive temperature coefficient (PTC) polymer diode with low leakage current and an integrated silicon oxide resistor.

When a transient voltage across the TVS diode exceeds its breakdown voltage, current will flow throug it and will be clamped to a safe level. This will provide a small DC voltage across the integrated resistor, which may cause an increase in the device\'s power dissipation. When the transient energy is over, this voltage dissipates and the resistor returns to its normal low power state.

The TVS diode also provides protection for the circuit from electrostatic discharge (ESD). When electrical charge is placed on an insulated conductor, an ESD event may occur, dissipating energy onto the TVS diode. When the amplitude of the ESD pulse exceeds the breakdown voltage, the device will absorb the energy that causes the breakdown and convert it into a thermal dissipation.
