It also has excellent ESD and surge energy handling capabilities, up to 40kA and can dissipate up to 4kW of energy. When it comes to working principles, MAP4KE47A employs a unique snapback charging mechanism to clamp excessive voltage pulses. Normally it is placed in parallel with the device input/output connections and following a current flows is activated. When a surge bigger than the device upper limit occurs, the breakdown voltage is reached, and the silicon-based body clamps the voltage, redirecting the current to ground. This clamped voltage will then be released slowly.
