Working Principle

The MAX13414EESA+ uses a 16-byte FIFO for both transmit and receive data. The transmit FIFO is filled with data from the system\'s processor. The receive FIFO is the source of received data used by the system\'s processor. The FIFOs are set up to detect two levels of data in them, an empty and a full condition.The MAX13414EESA+ also contains an 8-byte transmit and receive data buffer. When the data link is in a receive mode, it reads the input data and transfers it in blocks of 8-byte packets to the FIFO. When the data link is in a transmit mode, it takes the data from the FIFO and transfers it in blocks of 8-byte packets to the output data link.The MAX13414EESA+ includes a baud rate generator that is used to set the data rates on both the transmit and receive links. The baud rate generator can be programmed to generate any desired baud rate from 2400 to 115.2K baud.
