The MAX105ECS+ is an analog to digital converter (ADC) used to convert an analog signal into a sequence of digital values, using a precision voltage reference. It features 16-bit resolution, up to 7 channels, sampling rates up to 15Msps, and onboard amplifiers, filters and comparators. The MAX105ECS+ has a wide range of applications, from industrial process control and automotive electronics, to medical systems and other precision systems. It is especially suitable for high speed and high accuracy applications.

The basic principle of operation of the MAX105ECS+ is based on the process of delta-sigma conversion. This is an analog-to-digital conversion technique whereby the analog signal is converted into a digital signal by being sampled in discrete time steps. The input signal is then processed through a series of ‘digital reconstruction’ stages in order to produce a high-precision digital output. The main stages involved are amplifier, LPF, Σ-Δ Modulator, DAC and comparator.

The first stage of the conversion process is the amplifier stage. The amplifier takes the input signal and amplifies it to a level suitable for the subsequent stages of the process. The amplifier also contains noise-shaping circuitry which is used to reduce the noise level and improve the input signal-to-noise ratio of the system.

The second stage is the low-pass-filter (LPF) stage. This is used to filter out any high-frequency noise that might be present in the input signal. The output of the LPF is then sent to the Σ-Δ modulator. This is used to convert the analog signal into a high-precision digital signal by applying a single-bit analog-to-digital conversion technique. The output of the Σ-Δ modulator is then sent to the digital to analog converter (DAC) stage which converts the digital signal back into an analog signal. Finally, the analog output of the DAC is compared to the reference voltage by the comparator stage. If the voltage exceeds the reference voltage, a digital ‘1’ is written to the output, otherwise a digital ‘0’ is written. This process continues until the data is written to the output register.

The MAX105ECS+ can provide up to 16-bit resolution and up to 7 channels of analog-to-digital conversion. With sampling rates of up to 15Msps and high-frequency noise-shaping circuitry, it is ideal for high accuracy/high speed applications. It also features adjustable filter settings and built-in amplifiers and comparators, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of applications, such as industrial process control, automotive electronics, medical systems and precision systems.
