The MAX14585EVB+ is incorporated with low-pass filter and slew rate clamps for clean surge suppression. It also supports ±15kV air and ±8kV contact ESD protection and offers a wide operating temperature range of -40 to 125˚C. The main working principle behind the MAX14585EVB+ is the transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS) protection. This system offers protection against voltage surges and spikes caused by different phenomena such as lightning strikes, electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and static electricity (ESD). The protection system uses two connecting elements, which consists of a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) and an arrester. The MOV functions as a protect device against the voltage surge, while the arrester protects the MOV by dissipating any energy to the ground. The overall function of the MOV is to limit the surge voltage and current, while the arrester diverts the surge into the ground.
The MAX14585EVB+ also features low capacitance, fast response, and low leakage current. It offers low capacitance of <1pF for low EMI, fast response of < 10ns, and low leakage current of < 1μA. It ensures noise isolation of >50dB while offering protection against surges with no additional components required for handling up to 8kV ESD. It also ensures outstanding protection parameters with values of < 1ns response time, 100V/μs slew rate limit, and ±15A/μs peak clamping current.
