The MAX1482CPD+ is an advanced low-power RS-232 transceiver designed to meet the requirements for energy-conscious systems. It is designed for low-voltage, low-power applications. With its high ESD protection of ±21 kV, it is suitable for automotive, industrial, and medical applications. The device also meets the requirements of the IEC 60950 standard.

In addition to its low-power characteristics, the MAX1482CPD+ features a built-in charge pump, operating at 6.3 to 7.3V, to internally generate the required RS-232 voltage level. The MAX1482CPD+ includes the MAX1482CPD+F and the MAX1482CPD+T. In both devices, the “D+” indicates a dual voltage/power operating mode—in which the threshold voltage and power dissipation are optimized—making it possible to reduce product power consumption while maintaining performance.

The MAX1482CPD+F and MAX1482CPD+T feature an integrated RS-232 driver and receiver, respectively. The receive input uses precision hysteresis to improve noise immunity over the receive signal and provides a programmed idle state for the receiver. The transmitter output is designed for RS-232 level shifting and ESD protection.

The driver’s output is designed for RS-232 level shifting and ESD protection of up to ±21 kV. It works with a low-power charge pump to achieve DC-coupled logic level conversions and provides quick response to input signals. The transmitter’s output is protected against latchup currents up to 100 mA.

The MAX1482CPD+ family also features a range of other features, such as an “enable” pin, which allows the device to be turned off in order to reduce power consumption.
