The MAX1489ECPD+ transceiver is a dual-channel transciever with driver, receiver and transceiver functionality. It is designed for high-speed interfaces such as USB. It can also be used in a variety of other applications.
The MAX1489ECPD+ can be used in many application fields, including USB, High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), and others. The driver portion of the transceiver is capable of providing up to 1A of output current and is designed for applications with high data rates and low voltage output. The receiver portion performs interoperability tests and features adjustable gain and slew rate control. The transceiver has two channels that can be independently configured to use different operating modes.
The operating modes of the MAX1489ECPD+ can be configured to provide either half- or full-duplex transmission. Half-duplex allows only one device to talk at a time while full-duplex enables both devices to talk simultaneously. The device can also be configured to recognize data coming in and out on the same pair of wires. This makes it possible to use the transceiver for data transmission in systems with bidirectional communication capabilities.
The working principle of the MAX1489ECPD+ relies on a differential voltage signaling technique. As shown in Figure 1, the device works by transmitting out a differential voltage, which is then received and compared against a reference voltage by the receiver. When the transmitted differential voltage is equal to the reference voltage, the receiver will send out a logic ‘1’; otherwise, it will send out a logic ‘0’. This technique ensures low data-rate error, since comparisons take place on both the high and the low edges of the transmitted data.
The MAX1489ECPD+ offers a wide-range of features including high-speed receivers and transmitters, adjustable gain and slew rate, variable supply voltage operation, small form factor, and low power consumption. Its dual-channel operation is capable of delivering up to 1A of output current and is ideal for applications with high data rates and low voltage output.
