The MAX1489ECPD, a member of the MAX1489E family of differential line transceivers, finds application in a variety of areas. In particular, it offers high speed solutions for multiplexed buses, serial links, and fiber optic networks.

The MAX1489ECPD, designed for a wide range of data rates, is a low-power, dual differential line transceiver capable of operating from 200 Mbps up to 2.5 Gbps. It is designed to provide inexpensive and reliable solutions for applications such as MultiGigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand. The MAX1489ECPD provides a low-power, low-noise solution for applications in which data rates can range from 200 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps.

The MAX1489ECPD operates from a single 3.3 V supply and is capable of conveying differential signals over transmission lines with a maximum of +/-200 mV amplitude. At the same time, it can also support higher power level applications, such as Gigabit Ethernet, by utilizing its integrated termination resistors.

The MAX1489ECPD integrates a high-speed transformer driver and receiver section with an area insensitive, low noise, low power pair of line receiver amplifier stages. This design provides excellent crosstalk, return loss, and pulse-width characteristics. The transmitter includes an integrated differential transformer driver with a 50 Ω output impedance and a 300 Ω termination resistor that can be enabled by a programmable input pin.

The receiver section includes one input receiver amplifier, a differential clamping circuit, a programmable de-emphasis circuit, and a programmable amplifier gain setting for each input. The clamped signal is then amplified by the receiver amplifier and output as an LVDS signal. The de-emphasis feature reduces the signal magnitude at high frequencies to reduce the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the transmission line. The programmable gain setting allows the MAX1489ECPD to optimize its gain across different data rates and impedance levels.

The MAX1489ECPD features fault protection and robust signal equalization to ensure reliable operation in extreme environmental conditions. It is designed for 5 V tolerant input lines, and operates over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. The MAX1489ECPD also features a programmable receive equalizer, enabling operation over long transmission lines, and a transmitter common-mode control that allows operation with a wide range of output impedance. Additionally, the chip contains various features, such as a programmable Hysteresis level, output voltage swing adjustment, and power-down mode.

The MAX1489ECPD is an ideal solution for applications such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, Multi-Gigabit Ethernet, InfiniBand and other high-speed data communications systems. It may also be used in Industrial Ethernet and Automotive Ethernet applications. With its wide operating temperature range, low power consumption and excellent signal integrity, the MAX1489ECPD is an excellent solution for a broad range of applications.
