The MAX1493XSEVKIT is an application-specific evaluation and demonstration board that is designed for use with the Maxim Integrated MAX1493 and MAX1494 high-speed RS-232 transceivers. The MAX1493XSEVKIT provides users with an easy-to-use platform for evaluating and demonstrating the Maxim Integrated MAX1493 and MAX1494 high-speed RS-232 transceivers. The MAX1493XSEVKIT is designed using the Maxim Integrated MAX1493 and/or MAX1494 transceivers in a compact 6-layer PCB board for fast evaluation and demonstration of the Maxim Integrated MAX1493 and/or MAX1494 transceivers.Application Field
The MAX1493XSEVKIT is versatile and can be used in a wide variety of applications ranging from point-to-point multi-drop networks, computer bus interfaces, and custom board design. The MAX1493XSEVKIT is ideal for testing serial bus and multipoint networks, interfacing to intelligent devices, and testing handshaking protocols. The evaluation board provides multiple µSSOP-14 and/or dual-inline packages (DIP) options for easy evaluation and testing.Working Principle
The MAX1493XSEVKIT is based on the Maxim Integrated MAX1493 and/or MAX1494 transceivers. The Evaluation Board supports two modes of operation – single-channel and dual-channel. Users can choose to use either a bridge, common-mode, or multi-drop configuration while testing and evaluating the Maxim Integrated MAX1493/1494 transceivers.In single-channel operation, the MAX1493/1494 transceivers are connected from the Evaluation Board’s TX output to its RX input. When two-channel operation is selected, the TXA output is connected to RXA input, and the TXB output is connected to the RXB input.The MAX1493XSEVKIT hardware provides the user with the flexibility to switch between the single and dual-channel modes.The Evaluation Board also provides connection options for linking the MAX1493/1494 transceivers with different external components. The evaluation kit includes two µSSOP-14 and/or dual-inline packages, one male 6p6c and one female 6p6c for parallel port connections, and twelve 5p5c female phone jacks for external component connections.On the Evaluation Board, the MAX1493/ 1494 transceivers can be connected in parallel or series using the connector provided. To complete the board design, the Evaluation Board is shipped with the Maxim Integrated MAX1493/MAX1494 transceiver drivers and firmware installed. The MAX1493/1494 transceivers’ drivers and firmware allow users to configure the transceiver to suit their application needs.The MAX1493/1494 transceivers operate at high speed, so they require proper signal conditioning to provide reliable operation. The Software controlled signal-conditioning circuit is provided on the Evaluation Board. The circuit provides variable amplitude and offset adjust voltages to optimize the performance of the devices. The circuit provides offset adjustment of up to 3dB and a 3 dBm transmission amplitude, allowing the user to optimize the performance of the device.The Evaluation Board also supports a single-phase clock recovery rate of up to 8 MHz. The MAX1493/MAX1494 transceivers’ onboard phase-locked loop offers improved jitter suppression and signal integrity for higher speed operation.The Evaluation Board also includes built-in LED indicators for user feedback. The LED indicates the status of the transceivers’ line and signal conditions.The Evaluation Board can be powered either by an AC adapter or by USB and can be operated by a PC or a tablet, depending on the user’s requirements. The Evaluation Board also supports a wide range of communication protocols, such as RS-232, RS485, and CAN.Conclusion
