The MAX1513EVKIT is an evaluation board with a wide range of applications and a variety of power-conversion solutions. The MAX1513EVKIT is designed for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) switch-mode power supply (SMPS) designs, and it integrates MAX1513P/E switching controllers, provided with an EMI/RFI filter, DC/DC transformer, power MOSFETs, PFC inductor, and other passive components. This evaluation board is also designed for universal input, making it easy for power supply designers to evaluate various power topologies, such as flyback, forward, bridge, interleaved, half-bridge, and other isolated-power supply designs. Additionally, the MAX1513EVKIT allows designers to experiment and optimize their designs with regard to a variety of other parameters, such as EMI, efficiency, cross-regulation, and load regulation.
The MAX1513EVKIT provides an innovative combination of dedicated circuitry and a variety of power components such as switches, diodes, transistors, and other discrete components. This evaluation board has a printed circuit board (PCB) that measures 310 mm. Users with basic knowledge about SMPS design methodology can easily configure and power the MAX1513EVKIT, and experienced users can develop and implement new SMPS topologies.
The MAX1513EVKIT implements a typical DC/DC SMPS topology in which power from an external DC input source is converted to a single regulated output voltage. The DC input is firstly filtered with an EMI/RFI filter to reduce high and low voltage shocks and eliminate use of hazardous external fusing in the power supply. The filtered input is then rectified by the diodes, and then filtered by the capacitors to produce a regulated DC bus voltage. The bus voltage is then switched by the power MOSFETs, and the PFC inductor and polarized capacitors are used to reduce input harmonics.
The MAX1513EVKIT also includes the MAX1513P/E family of switching controllers, which provide closed-loop control of input and output voltages. The MAX1513E switching controllers provide a cost-effective solution for converters with simplified analog circuits, while the MAX1513P switching controllers offer enhanced performance with various functions such as overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and adjustable soft-start.
The MAX1513EVKIT also features an oscilloscope-viewer, which allows users to view the waveforms of various signals on the evaluation board in real time. The oscilloscope viewer enables users to quickly troubleshoot and debug their designs, as well as to optimize various parameters such as switching frequency, rise/fall times, duty cycle, and transient response. The evaluation board also includes a number of test points and connectors that enable users to measure and analyze various signals and parameters.
