Application Field

The MAX1518EVKIT is one of the most widely used Evaluation Boards for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. This board supports applications such as residential lighting, motor drives, solar inverters, LED lighting, and switched-mode power supplies. It consists of a Step-Down (Flyback) High Power Module, MAX1518EVKIT, which is designed for high-power applications with any power output levels above 1 kW. It is equipped with a wide array of system features that include protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, over temperature, short- circuit, drifting-free load-compensation, soft start, frequency and power factor control.

Working Principle

The working principle of the MAX1518EVKIT is based on a hybrid modulation technique that combines PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and linear modulation. The power conversion unit of the MAX1518EVKIT utilizes PWM in different ranges to reduce switching losses. When needed, the module also uses linear modulation to adjust the duty cycle and provide a smooth output voltage. This reduces resonance and helps improve the efficiency of the power conversion. Furthermore, the onboard converter integrated circuit (IC) provides over-voltage protection, under-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, over-current protection, and short-circuit protection.
