This diversity offers the design engineer flexibility when choosing a power supply for their device.The charger has a wide range input voltage that allows it to be used with a wide range of power sources, from wall adapters to car adapters. The charger is also able to take advantage of high temperature charging to provide a fast charge for high temperature applications.The MAX1555EZK+T also includes a self-calibrating thermal system to ensure the device does not overheat during the charging process. The charger also includes a variety of features to make it easy to use, including an integrated charge-level indicator and selectable charging current. The device is able to be used in both continuous and discontinuous modes.Working Principle
The MAX1555EZK+T utilizes a switching power supply, a linear voltage regulator, and a cell protection circuit to charge a single-cell Li-Ion battery. The switching power supply section of the device utilizes a switched-mode power converter to convert the input voltage of incoming power source into a regulated output voltage.The linear voltage regulator section of the device then takes the output voltage of the switched-mode power converter and uses a linear voltage regulator to regulate the output voltage to a level that is suitable for charging a single-cell Li-Ion battery. The linear voltage regulator section of the device also includes a self-calibrating thermal system to ensure the device does not overheat during the charging process.The cell protection circuit section of the device is then able to ensure the device is protected from potential cell damage an incorrect operation. This section of the device employs an over-current and over-temperature protection circuit to ensure the device remains protected from potential damage. Additionally, the device includes a reverse-current and reverse-voltage protection circuit to ensure the device does not attempt to charge a battery that has reverse-polarity.The device also includes an integrated charge-level indicator, allowing the user to see the charging process and levels of charge that the battery has attained. Additionally, the device has selectable charging current, allowing the user to select the rate of charge they would like the device to use.Finally, the device is able to be used in both continuous and discontinuous modes, allowing the user to utilize their own charging strategies. The device has an active low Sleep input that allows the user to enter the discontinuous change mode. In the active low Sleep mode, the device will cease charging until the Sleep input is de-asserted and the device is re-enabled.Conclusion
