The MAX1586AEVKIT from Maxim Integrated is an evaluation board designed to address this need with both its DC/DC and AC/DC (Offline) SMPS capabilities.

This evaluation board enables designers to quickly and accurately evaluate the performance characteristics of Maxim Integrated’s MAX1586A 1A, constant-frequency, localized-regulation, dual-output DC/DC converter. The MAX1586A features shutdown protection, soft start, and overvoltage protections, making it ideal for powering microprocessors and other digital logic applications. Additionally, the evaluation board provides a full set of features necessary to evaluate modules compliant to the European Code of Conduct for converters, ensuring compatibility with power supplies, motor speed control circuitry, and other system components.

For AC/DC applications, the evaluation board supports a wide input range of 85-265 VAC and features a DC output voltage up to 48 VDC, a power factor greater than 0.9, and a high efficiency of typically greater than 88%. The board is equipped with a comprehensive set of safety features including over voltage protection, over current protection, and short circuit protection. Additionally, the board includes an active current sensing pin for monitoring average output current.

By leveraging the MAX1586AEVKIT, designers are able to easily develop and evaluate applications with the assurance they are using both efficient and sustainable power sources.
