The device incorporates two power MOSFETs to regulate the output from an input voltage source. The MAX1623EAP synchronous buck switching regulator can provide up to 2A continuous current with a total output voltage range of 0.8V to 1.6V.The MAX1623EAP switching regulator operates in three-mode control – pulsewidth modulation (PWM) mode, skip mode and forced Vin mode. In PWM mode, the duty cycle of the output switch is adjusted to maintain a constant output voltage. The duty cycle varies over the range of 0-100% and can be controlled by an external feedback loop. In skip mode, the device enters into a very low power state and is only activated when the input exceeds the minimum voltage, indicated by the ENREF pin. The MAX1623EAP will then remain in the skip mode until the output voltage drops below the regulated output voltage. When the voltage drops, the device will restart the switching cycle and return to PWM mode.The MAX1623EAP is configured with a synchronous rectification control logic and features a fast current sensing MOSFET. The device has a low-bias current leading to a reduction of power consumption and an enhanced circuit efficiency. The device SENSE terminal can be used to set the maximum peak inductor current level, preventing the overloading of the MOSFET switches. The MAX1623EAP also includes short-circuit protection and current limit protection.In addition to its power-management capabilities, the MAX1623EAP also provides enhanced security and performance by using integrated voltage monitoring, temperature monitoring and shutdown control. The device also includes a soft-start circuit to prevent output voltage overshoot when the device is first powered on.The MAX1623EAP is designed for use in space-constrained applications such as embedded systems, motor drives, PIV and solar power supplies. The device is also suitable for use in current-sensing applications where accuracy and low quiescent current are critical. The wide input range allows for use in applications with input voltage sources that could range from 5.5V to 42V.
