The MAX1675EUA is a complete, high-performance, adjustable, synchronous, step-down dc–dc converter. It contains all of the active circuitry required for converting of a 4.5 V to 24 V input voltage down to any output voltage as low as 0.8 V and as high as 12 V. The on-board voltage-level detector responds to input transients, reducing the quiescent current to 180 μA in the no-load state.Application field
MAX1675EUA is suitable for applications such as cellular telephone, hand-held phone, and network hardware, digital video equipment, industrial control or measurings systems, remote data transmission, and solid-state drive. Due to its high-output power, excellent voltage-regulation accuracy, and fast-transient response, the MAX1675EUA is suitable for a wide range of step-down applications. MAX1675EUA leads the way to a new generation of low input voltage and high-output-power DC–DC converters. It can simultaneously provide regulated voltage and ground reference voltages up to 3 A of output current and as low as 0.8 V. In addition, this device can maximize the output requested voltage (VOUT) load regulation and efficiency for almost any application.Working Principle
The MAX1675EUA operates by switching a current from the input voltage to the output voltage by means of inductor-based pulse-width modulation (PWM). This inductor-based PWM technique combines the advantages of both linear and switching regulators. It is usually the case that the choke is switched in the inductor. As the power transfer is continuous, no switching elements are required. The switching frequency of the MAX1675EUA is adjustable via its CTRL pin, allowing the user to reduce EMI for switching frequencies below 100 kHz.When current is transferred from the input voltage to the output voltage, the output voltage must remain stable. This stability is accomplished in the MAX1675EUA by dynamic feedback control which samples the output voltage and adjusts the conduction period of the converter. This dynamic closed-loop technique results in superior line and load regulation.Because of its unique switching and feedback components combined with its advanced features, the MAX1675EUA offers unprecedented power savings compared to output stage-regulated converters. Because the PWM feature of the MAX1675EUA is carried out in the same circuit as its voltage regulation loop, no separate regulation loop is necessary, eliminating additional power losses. In addition, its dynamic current-sense and output voltage-control loops operate over the entire operating range, providing fast transient response and stable output voltage over the full load range. The MAX1675EUA utilizes synchronous rectification, with high-side and low-side switches, to minimize the power losses associated with freewheeling diode drop. As the synchronous rectification method is highly efficient, it can achieve extremely high energy savings across a wider range of input voltages, improving the maximum power from the regulator.The MAX1675EUA device includes an internal soft startup circuit. When this circuit is activated, it impedance-limits the inrush current of the inductor for a low quiescent current, helping to reduce the amount of power required for startup.In addition to its high accuracy, the MAX1675EUA supports under-voltage lock-out, thermal shutdown and over-voltage protection. By implementing these features, the MAX1675EUA can improve the safety and reliability of the system.Conclusion
