The MAX16803EVKIT+ adopts a full bridge parallel loads (FBP, also called boost/buck LED driver) architecture. The buck LED driver uses the output current to regulate LED current. The inductor value, or the time constant of the inductor, is calculated by multiplying the input voltage and the inductance, in order to maintain power balance between the buck and boost LED drivers. The MAX16803EVKIT+ also supports a single-stage architecture, which allows for more efficient operation as compared to the two-stage architecture. The input voltage is appropriately regulated by the buck LED driver at both the low and high load.
The MAX16803EVKIT+ also employs an intelligent discharge. This is a feature designed to reduce the peak current load of the output stage by stopping the transfer of power from the buck to the boost LEDs at transition stages, thus avoiding the generation of high ripple components. Additionally, the MAX16803EVKIT+ features an auto-balancing loop, which adjusts the light source to maintain output accuracy. This is important in applications where narrow lines of light are required.
