MAX16833BAUE/V+TQA is a robust solution for driving high color accuracy RGB LEDs. It adopts the circuit design integrating a high-accuracy regulator and low-EMI switching step-down converter with the function of over-voltage and over-current protections, providing a smart and cost-effective alternative to discrete solutions. This PMIC product is suitable for a wide range of applications. It could be used in backlighting modules, such as monitors and LCD TVs, as well as general market apps like architectural lighting, portable devices, automotive dashboard, and more.

The MAX16833BAUE/V+TQA boasts a precision regulator providing an output flexibility of 6V to 70V, making it ideal for high-power LED designs, and is also compatible with RGB LED strings of up to 32 LEDs with up to 8A of charging current. This IC features dual high-side and low-side regulated outputs with speeds up to 2.2MHz, accommodating the fast switching speeds required for RGB LED designs. This offers users system-level savings of up to 50 percent compared with discrete solutions, while delivering the same energy efficiency. In addition, the PMIC product integrates several failsafe features, including error and fault protection, as well as over-voltage and over-current protection, making it more reliable.

Competing solutions only provide a single low-side regulated output, which is inefficient as a switching regulator and requires an additional high-side sink for each output. With the MAX16833BAUE/V+TQA, the combination of high-side and low-side regulation alleviates this requirement, and it can operate at higher operating frequencies, allowing the use of smaller inductors (168 nH) and capacitors (4.7 µF). This Ultra-Low EMI device also supports multiple modulation types, enabling the user to tailor its solution to the application.

The MAX16833BAUE/V+TQA is designed to offer high accuracy and current level control during operation. This is achieved by employing an internal voltage regulator and a system-wide current sensing circuit, which ensures the accuracy of current level control and overall system efficiency.
