The MAX16840EVKIT+ is an advanced development platform for evaluation and demonstration of low-power LED driver solutions for a wide variety of application fields. This kit includes an easy-to-use graphical user interface that enables users to quickly set up, configure and test their LED driver solutions. The kit’s independent power supplies ensure precise control of all the signals required for a successful evaluation, while a range of external interfaces provide hot-swappable connections to the design. Connecting to the kit’s USB port grants access to a wide range of resources that allow users to easily access the detailed technical information and support provided by Maxim Integrated.

The MAX16840EVKIT+ suits a number of application fields, such as automotive lighting, general lighting, outdoor applications and infotainment backlights. The device is packaged in a 24-pin, 3mm x 3mm QFN package, allowing for tight design constraints, and can support LED strings of up to 84V and up to five LEDs. The kit eliminates the need for manual DIP switches or firmware programming, and offers diagnostic testing for the presence of shorted and open LED strings. A wide range of industry standard interfacing and communication protocols are supported, such as I2C, UART and GPIO.

The MAX16841EVKIT+ includes dedicated circuit boards for demonstrating user interface applications, isolating power supply designs, DC-DC converter designs, and high-side and low-side LED drivers. Current regulation compensates for changes in ambient temperature and improves the accuracy of the LED current by compensating for changes in the forward voltage of the LEDs. Voltage regulation is needed to maintain a constant voltage drop across the LEDs and to compensate for changes in the current sourcing capabilities of the driver and any changes in the led string\'s combined forward voltage that are caused by temperature changes or the presence of a shorted or open string in the series. Additionally, the MAX16841EVKIT+ features output short-circuit protection, and can detect current faults and provide alert signals to the system.
