MAX16975BAEE/V+T is a high-performance DC-DC step-up switched-mode voltage regulator from Maxim Integrated. It is specifically designed for low-power operation and is widely applied in the automotive, communications, and consumer electronic industries. This application note will provide a description of the regulator’s application field and working principle.The MAX16975BAEE/V+T is a step-up DC to DC converter with a high reliability and an integrated low RDS(on) MOSFET. The regulator is provided in the highly reliable TSSOP-22 package, which is suitable for multiple layers of solder on the printed circuit board (PCB). The regulator features an internal low on resistance (0.7 Ω typical) power MOSFET and an enabling logic transistor coupled between the PWM comparator\'s output and the internal MOSFET. These components together provide an efficent, high power switching device and superior system protection against pulsed-current and reverse voltage conditions. Its wide input voltage range of 4.5 V to 40 V, adjustable output voltage range of 2.6 V to 40 V, and flexibility of its oscillator frequency, allows the device to be optimized for various conditions and scenarios. This capability naturally makes the device ideal for automotive, communications and consumer electronic applications, for example, in power management systems for engine control digital audio, and LCD display.The regulator operates from an external on/off logic signal, determined by the external resistor driver. Its minimum under-voltage lockout (UVLO) is 2.2 V. An internal switching logic prevents the output voltage from rising when enabled before the UVLO threshold, thus preventing over-voltage conditions. The regulator has a fixed frequency of 550 kHz, which allows control of the subsystem\'s thermal performance. Additionally, its maximum operating temperature is +125 ℃, with a -40 ℃ junction temperature. In addition to its superior protection, the regulator has integrated thermal protection, over-current and reverse current protection. The thermal protection has two basic modes of action—defeating the pulses in the switching cycle or complete current shutdown when the junction temperature reaches the threshold. The MAX16975BAEE/V+T also has integrated emission and immunity levels of 15 kV/s and 10 V, respectively. The device\'s rated output current is 3 A with an efficiency of 85%. Overall, the MAX16975BAEE/V+T is a high-performance, low-power DC-DC step-up regulator with a number of integrated features that make it ideal for a wide range of automotive, communications, and consumer electronic applications. It provides stringent protection against damaging current and reverse voltage conditions while operating at a low power consumption and temperature.
