The MAX17006AETP+T, a 3.5MHz, 4.2V–5.5V, ultra–high–efficiency, synchronous step–down battery charger, is an ideal solution for extending battery life in portable applications. The recipe-driven MAX17006AETP+T step-down battery charger is designed to manage all aspects of battery charging, including voltage and current regulation, battery over-voltage protection and thermal management. The MAX17006AETP+T also features a high efficiency buck-boost architecture that provides up to 95% efficiency while delivering up to 3A at 4.2V input (VIN).

The MAX17006AETP+T is a full-featured, single-cell Li-ion or Li-polymer battery charger. It is capable of operating in buck, boost, buck-boost, or battery charge modes. This versatility makes the MAX17006AETP+T ideal for a wide variety of applications including: smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices, automotive systems, and power tools. The MAX17006AETP+T features an internal temperature sensor and an adjustable temperature threshold that can be used to protect the battery from being overcharged.

The MAX17006AETP+T\'s internal controller drives a high-performance N-channel MOSFET power switch based on peak inductor current sensing, which results in fast transient response with low output ripple, and allows the MAX17006AETP+T to maintain a precise output voltage even in step-down mode. The input voltage range is wide enough to accommodate wide input voltage variation, from 4.2V – 5.5V. The MAX17006AETP+T offers adjustable output and input current limit settings for further flexibility.

The MAX17006AETP+T includes an optional precharge circuitry, which allows the battery charger to charge a discharged battery. This optional feature reduces the inrush current to the battery which helps protect the battery from being over discharged. To provide the best battery life, the MAX17006AETP+T uses an advanced cycle life algorithm and selectable target current mode.
