The MAX17065EVKIT+ is an evaluation board (EVK) designed to evaluate the performance, capabilities, and features of the MAX17065 high-precision electrolytic capacitor fuel-gauge IC. The MAX17065EVKIT+ are part of the MAX17065E fuel gauge IC product family. The MAX17065E fuel-gauge family enables mobile device OEMs to extend the battery life of their phones while providing voltage and temperature monitoring. The MAX17065E is a cost-effectively high-precision liquid-electrolyte fuel-gauge IC with integrated Voltage and Temperature Sense Amplifiers, allowing for an exceptionally-accurate indication of remaining battery capacity. The IC also features enhanced coulomb counting and an increased temperature range so that designers are able to increase the accuracy and reliability of their designs. The MAX17065E is also capable of automatically controlling the system’s discharge and charge current to ensure the accuracy of the fuel gauge reading, which reduces the complexity of the design and eliminates the need for manual correction.
The MAX17065E is connected to the MSP430F2013 device by using an I2C communication protocol. The MSP430F2013 device is the main processor for the MAX17065EVKIT+ which serves as the platform for the development and debugging of the MAX17065E. The MSP430F2013 device communicates with external peripherals such as the thermistor and voltage divider. The device also allows for programming and verification of the IC’s characteristics which can be observed through the LCD display. The MAX17065E also contains several additional features, such as a temperature compensation algorithm, power voltage monitoring, and the ability to operate with sleep mode.
The MAX17065EVKIT+ contains five LEDs that can be used to visually understand the status of the fuel gauge IC. The integrated thermistor on the board allows for onboard testing of the MAX17065E’s temperature sensing and compensation features.
