The MAX17292ETCC+ is a step-down, current-mode (CM) regulator ideal for a wide range of portable and industrial applications. It can achieve up to 95.5% efficiency with just 1.5mΩ of external power switch resistance and can deliver up to 3A of continuous load current without an external heat sink. This PMIC - Voltage Regulator - DC DC Switching Regulator integrates dual N-Channel power MOSFETs and a PWM controller with a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 28V and an adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 25V to deliver a wide range of operating voltages for different application scenarios. In addition, the device features integrated safety features such as cycle-by-cycle current limiting, thermal overload protection, and short-circuit protection. The MAX17292ETCC+ also includes features that ensure efficient and reliable power delivery such as pick-off current mode control, skip mode, and adjustable frequency.
The MAX17292ETCC+ provides medium- and high-current regulated power supplies where system efficiency, quickly rising load-current operation, and improved magnetic design are required. The controller provides the current-mode control necessary to achieve excellent load and line regulation, as well as constant switching frequency, over the entire line and load range. It employs a novel topology to enable maximum power conversion efficiency without the use of an external synchronous rectifier, while still requiring fewer components than other designs. The combination of higher power conversion efficiency and fewer components helps reduce system cost and board space.
The MAX17292ETCC+ features innovative synchronous rectification control that reduces switching losses and improves efficiency throughout the compensated line and load ranges. Other features include anode voltage level shifting for improved light-load efficiency, programmable current limit, input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), device shutdown, and over temperature protection (OTP). It also provides a enable/shutdown function, allowing the system to be enabled without cycling power or reset. The device is housed in a tiny 10-pin uMAX package, allowing it to be used in the most space-constrained applications with minimal board area and height.
The MAX17292ETCC+ is an excellent solution for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. It is especially well suited for building powerful and energy-efficient power systems for charging laptop batteries, portable electronic devices (cell phones, PDAs), and USB applications. In automotive applications, it can be used for battery charging systems, LED headlights, and other power sources for the vehicle.
