Working Principle

The MAX1734EUK18+ operates in current mode, with overcurrent protection. It provides the ability to regulate the output voltage at light loads. The device uses an integrated NFET and PFET to switch the input voltage to the output voltage, using an external inductor. At the rising edge of the clock signal, the internal NFET switch is turned on, and the current in the inductor builds up. At the falling edge of the clock, the NFET switch is turned off, and the PFET is switched on. The energy stored in the inductor is transformed through the output capacitor to the output voltage.
