The MAX17524EVKIT Evaluation Board is designed for use in demonstration, evaluation, and development of a range of AC/DC (off-line) and DC/DC switching mode power supplies (SMPS). In particular, it features an adjustable, low-noise, wide-range synchronous buck regulator circuit using the MAX17524 dual, synchronous, step-down controller. It is designed to accept an input voltage of 4.5V up to 75V (typical).

The MAX17524EVKIT evaluation board comes equipped with on-board adjustable load regulation (via trimpot), ENABLE terminal (for soft-start or operating enable), MPLX pin programmable current limit settings, short-circuit protection, and comprehensive protection from various operating over-temperature and under-voltage conditions. It also features a VOUT and VIN monitor output, so that external measurements of output, input, and switching voltage can be made easily.  It supports adjustable output voltage ranges from 0.6V to 3V, and provides an adjustable switching frequency range from 100 kHz to 1.5 MHz.

The MAX17524 buck regulator circuit works using a constant frequency, current-mode control architecture. It comprises of an internal oscillator, a power stage, and a control section, including modified  constant on-time (MCOT) & voltage mode control. The MCOT control is used to provide fast transient response, up to 50% duty cycle, and a maximum load step response of 100mV at the output. The voltage-mode control is used to minimize overshoot and undershoot when filling or draining specific output currents.

General features of the MAX17524EVKIT also include regenerative soft-start, short circuit protection using internal current limit, selectable clock signal synchronization, as well as additional safety features, such as over-temperature protection and under-voltage protection. Its output voltage and current stability is further enhanced by integrated tolerance filter, while an HV start-up cell provides maximum protection against high inrush current, in case of AC mains applications.

The MAX17524EVKIT also supports various input voltage/output voltage multiplier combinations, making it suitable for a variety of AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS applications, such as telecoms power supplies, embedded systems, LED lighting systems, ac adapters, and wall street systems, among other applications. This makes it a very versatile power solution for power system designers looking for reliable, efficient and cost-effective power supplies.
