The MAX17535ETG+ is a synchronous, high-efficiency, step-down battery charger for space-constrained, portable applications. Packaged in a fully integrated, 5mm × 5mm TQFN, the device operates from a 4.5V to 28V input and is capable of charging batteries from 0V to 24V at up to 3A. The MAX17535ETG+ provides several features to simplify designs, including voltage and current regulation, thermal monitoring, charge status, and several programmable functions.
The MAX17535ETG+ can be used to charge a variety of battery types, including single-cell Li-Ion and LiFePO4, two-cell series-connected Li-Ion and LiFePO4 and three-cell series-connected Li-Ion and LiFePO4 batteries. The device features integrated FETs with a low 0.08Ω (max) RDS(on). Output current is limited by either the external resistor on the ILIM pin or the internal MOSFETs, making the design more efficient and simpler.
The MAX17535ETG+ includes several features to ensure a safe charge, such as end-of-charge detection, low voltage protection, thermal shutdown, and overvoltage protection. In addition, several other features such as charge status and output voltage regulation help simplify system design. The device also includes an active reverse polarity protection feature to protect the device from negative voltage transients.
The device operates in two modes: fast charging and constant charging. In fast-charge mode, the device supplies up to 2A VOUT and is controlled by an internal voltage-mode switching regulator with a switching frequency of 1.25MHz. The fast-charge mode is suitable for quick charge applications. In constant-current mode, the device supplies up to 3A VOUT and is controlled by an internal current-mode switching regulator with a switching frequency of 1.25MHz. The constant-current mode is suitable for high-current applications.
The device also includes a charge status pin (STAT) that can be used to indicate the status of the charge cycle. The pin can be used to indicate the device is in shutdown/restart, fast-charge/constant-charge, and end-of-charge conditions. In addition, the device can be configured to generate a signal to the host processor when the charge cycle is complete.
The MAX17535ETG+ is ideal for a wide variety of portable applications such as smartphone, tablet, wearable, and medical devices. It can be used in industrial, automotive, and consumer applications, where high efficiency, fast charge and output voltage regulation are critical. The device is available in two package options, 5mm × 5mm TQFN and 8mm × 8mm WLCSP.
