Working Principle

When the load current is within the maximum linear-mode specification, the device operates in linear mode. When the load current exceeds the linear-mode specification, the device automatically switches to switch mode.The linear-mode output is achieved via an ON/OFF switch, the output voltage being set and regulated by the amplifier’s reference voltage. A fixed-frequency, pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control loop is used in switch-mode operation to ensure fast and accurate response to load changes.The MAX1765EEE+ also has an integrated selectable output voltage function, allowing for a wide range of output voltages from 0.8V to 5.5V. Additionally, a slew-rate-limited control loop reduces input ripple voltage, ensuring that the desired output voltage is maintained over the full operating range.
