The MAX17682EVKIT# is an evaluation board designed for customers looking at integrating an off-line, DC/DC & AC/DC SMPS into their designs. MAX17682EVKIT# is a comprehensive and powerful evaluation kit to evaluate the MAX17682 dual-Channel PWM/PFM controller. The key feature of the MAX17682 is its ability to support a wide range of current-mode voltage topologies, such as flyback and buck, and to deliver reliable and efficient power solutions.

The evaluation board is composed of a primary side board with hopf4136A regulator and a secondary side board with Elmos Mx0A88-1 driver, MAX17682 PWM/PFM controller and Gaipre G3056L- TFS inductor. This evaluation board is also compliant with the EMI European standards. With this design, it is easy to undertake the measurements to verify the parameters of DC/DC & AC/DC SMPS.

The primary side of the board includes the high performance Hopf 4136A regulator using current mode control. Hopf 4136A has many features such as an integrated current limit and temperature protection. This regulator is capable of delivering up to 2A output current with a selectable output voltage of 5V/3.3V/1.8V/1.2V/0.9V/0.6V/0.45V/0.3V. Additionally, this regulator has a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 17.5V.

The secondary side of the MAX17682EVKIT# includes the MAX17682 PWM/PFM controller, Elmos MxOA88-1 gate driver and Gaipre G3056L-TFS inductor. The MAX17682 is a dual-channel PWM/PFM controller that is designed for simple current-mode offline power supplies. It is capable of delivering up to 30W of power in a non-isolated topology. It also features overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, UVLO(overvoltage protection) and thermal shutdown protection. The Elmos MxOA88-1 gate driver is used to drive the number of gate outputs required for applications such as buck, flyback or forward topologies. The Gaipre G3056L-TFS inductor is used to store the energy and provide a steady current to the gate output.

The MAX17682EVKIT# can be used to develop and test a wide range of DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS applications such as the following: AC/DC adapters, isolated power supplies (SMPS) , offline converters, off-line power supplies, battery chargers, automotive onboard chargers and multi-output AC/DC and DC/DC converters. The board has been designed to be easy to use and offers the flexibility needed to quickly develop and test a range of power solutions.

In operation, the primary side of the board is powered by an AC mains supply which is converted to a DC voltage by a Hopf 4136A regulator. This DC voltage is then passed to the MAX17682 PWM/PFM controller via its two channels. The MAX17682 controller converts the DC voltage into the desired output voltage and current by driving the Elmos Mx0A88-1 gate driver and Gaipre G3056L-TFS inductor.
