The MAXM17504EVKIT# is an evaluation kit for evaluating the features of Texas Instruments’ MAXM17504, an ultra-small step-down DC/DC converter that offers high efficiency and improved dynamic response. It is part of the DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS evaluation boards manufactured by Texas Instruments. Its design is enabled by the MAXM17504, which includes an advanced step-down DC/DC converter, a control algorithm for dynamic response and an optimized power mode control. The board also has a high-efficiency low-quiescent current design, a very low standby power, a wide operating frequency range and an over-temperature indicator. There are two switches onboard that allow for easy selection of the power management mode for the device.Using the MAXM17504EVKIT#, designers can quickly evaluate the MAXM17504’s features and functionality, as well as optimize its performance. This includes testing for output current, voltage drop, enable/disable delays, switching frequency, and the output voltage ripple. The evaluation board also offers a low reference voltage accuracy, high-speed transient response, and fast start/ disable. Through the use of the onboard selector, designers can easily switch between different power management modes for the device.The MAXM17504 step-down DC/DC converter works on the principle of pulse-width modulation, or PWM. This technique uses a continuous switching frequency produced by an oscillator signal in order to conserve energy and deliver superior dynamic response. The PWM control loop adjusts the switching duty cycle of this signal in order to maintain a constant output voltage, which is determined by the fixed input voltage and the desired output voltage.
