<p>The MAXREFDES111B# is the first fully-integrated, isolated flyback evaluation board. This board carries a rugged, high-efficiency, synchronous rectified, flyback power supply with an isolation rating of 4 kV, and is ideal for designs with an input voltage range of wide ranging from 10 V to 36 V. It is a suitably rugged and isolated solution that provides a few watts of output power for isolated digital electronics, amplifiers, and sensors that require a dual supply. It is also suited for use in isolated low power FPGA applications.</p><p>The MAXREFDES111B# enables designers to evaluate and/or test an isolated solution with a wide input voltage range. This evaluation board includes full circuit protection, an isolated output, and supports as output ranges from 5.0 V to 24 V. The board can operate in the continuous conduction mode or will automatically transition to the discontinuous conduction mode to regulate the output when the load demands.  It also includes a ripple-control regulator that provides a low-ripple votlage supply to the gate drive circuit that provides tight control for improved efficiency.</p><p>The MAXREFDES111B# utilizes a transformer design that allows for the connection of a secondary windings for both the main output voltages and low-voltage auxiliary supply. This design enables an isolation rating of 4 kV and prevents the distribution of ground loops. The main output of the evaluation board is delivered to two separate terminals for controlling the positive and negative output voltages without losing precision.</p><p>The MAXREFDES111B# provides designers with an efficient, reliable, and robust isolated power solution. All of the components used in its design are of high quality, tested over a wide temperature range, and have been proven to be reliable in comparison to similar solutions on the market. The robust design of this evaluation board allows for a wide operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, and provides for a power-saving sleep mode when the load is disconnected.</p><p>At the heart of the MAXREFDES111B# lies a synchronous rectified, isolated flyback topology, which is used to convert the input voltage into the isolated output voltage. Its basic circuity employs two transistors to store and release energy in a transformer. During the switching period, the primary winding of the transformer stores energy in the form of the magnetic field. One of the transistors is used to control the current flow to the primary winding of the transformer and the other is used to control the current flow from the secondary winding into the load. The controller monitors the transistors, controlling their on and off times to regulate the output voltage as required by the load. This also enables the converter to attain design efficiencies of up to 95%.</p><p>The MAXREFDES111B# evaluation board, with its combination of isolating transformer, wide voltage range, and full circuit protection offers designers an effective means for evaluating, modifying, and testing an isolated power solution.
