Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) are specialized integrated circuits that provide the control, management, and delivery of power for various technological and consumer applications. Within the PMIC family, Supervisors are integrated circuits that monitor the supply voltage and generate a reset signal when either the voltage reaches a specified upper or lower limit. The MC33164P-3G is an N-channel MOSFET Supervisory integrated circuit, designed to respond to the potential of an input (primary power source) failure. In the event of a primary source being supplied with less than a desired voltage level, the Supervisory circuit opens the MOSFET and opens the device supply voltage path and turns off the current consumption. The MC33164P-3G also has Smart Shutdown capability meaning that upon receiving a logic high on the shutdown pin, the device turns off the current consumption and automatically re-activates when the voltage is within the proper range.

The MC33164P-3G application field is expansive, making it the perfect choice for various medium- and heavy-duty electronics, including LED drivers, power supplies, and medical equipment. It is also appropriate for motor controllers, robotic equipment, and both consumer and industrial applications. In the third, the Red Mode, the device senses an out of range or insufficient supply voltage and in response, the circuit is disabled and the output is taken to the shutdown level.

The MC33164P-3G has a wide temperature range, operating from -40℃ to +125℃. It also offers robust protection, with an over current protection of 3.0A, up to a voltage of 45 Volts. The short circuit current is then cut off after a short-term protection time, making it suitable for level shifting, signal switching, and many other applications requiring a high level of protection.
