Working Principle

The MC33907AE works by using synchronous rectification of a buck converter. In this circuit, inductor current is switched on and off, to control the output voltage. This is done by the Arduino board.

The MC33907AE uses the difference between the input voltage and the voltage across the inductor to drive the MOSFETs. When the MOSFET is connected, the inductor will be charged with current, which is then fed to the output buffer circuit. When the load decreases, the MOSFET will be disconnected, thus releasing the energy stored in the inductor and in turn controlling the output voltage.

The MC33907AE provides protection against both over-voltage and over-current scenarios. The overvoltage protection (OVP) is designed to limit the output voltage, while the over-current protection (OCP) is designed to turn off the MOSFETs when the load reaches the peak current.
