MC33164P-5RP is a Smart Reset IC (SRIC) designed to monitor the power supply system of electronic sets and devices, providing immediate action when an overvoltage, undervoltage, or short-circuit condition is detected. The MC33164P-5RP is a latching reset IC designed to meet various system restart requirements, with a high-speed operation that helps prevent damage to the system circuitry. The two latching outputs, V(High12) and V(Low0.8) of the MC33164P-5RP, provide more options for reset strategies creativity. The delay between the two thresholds can be adjusted using an RC circuit (up to delay 10s). The V(High12) will be triggered at a voltage level higher than the normal operating voltage, providing protection against overvoltage events. When the V(High12) output is triggered, the device will prevent the V(Low 0.8) from being activated until the power supply voltage drops below a preset voltage level. This feature reduces the potential resets due to voltage fluctuations.
The MC33164P-5RP is ideal for numerous other applications such as monitoring the main rail of personal computers (PCs) to insure proper restart sequences; protecting a system from power rail brownouts and blackouts; providing positive supply sequencing; and introducing system reset indication in networking and communication equipment.
