PMIC - Gate Drivers

As an integral part of power management integrated circuits (PMICs), gate drivers provide versatile control of power transistors and can significantly reduce components count in the system. They provide either open/close and on/off control, as well as fast and slow switching and comparator functions to maximize efficiency and increase system safety. Working Principle

The MC34151PG is a 4-channel gate driver that can be configured for different applications. It includes four power MOSFETs and four power MOSFETs receivers. The device is designed to drive high, low and floating side switches as well as transitioning having Fast On / Fast Off functions available in each channel, allowing both sides to be driven independently and simultaneously. The built-in safety functions, such as active shoot-through protection, enable the device to prevent current conduction in two directions at the same time, which could lead to damage in the system.

The driver is also designed with a comparator, which can respond to PWM input signals, analog signals and logic signals. The comparator is used for switching PWM signals along with low-power dissipation and high-speed response. The integrated low-side MOSFET can be used for switching the ground side power MOSFETs in synchronous rectifier circuits, allowing for maximum efficiency and improved system performance in applications such as DC/DC converters. Finally, the device features 10V tolerant pins, allowing true logic compatibility with other logic circuits.
