MCP1258-E/UN is a simple, high-speed, high performance, single-channel regulator with integrated return switching FET and integrated Thevenin sense resistors.
MCP1258-E/UN is part of Microchip\'s DC-DC Switching Regulators family. It is a highly efficient, low-input current, single-channel buck regulator with inherent lower ripple and output voltage noise. The MCP1258-E/UN provides fast transient response and excellent load and line regulation over a wide temperature and operating voltage range. It is also equipped with integrated Thevenin equivalent return switch FET and sense resistors to sense and adjust output voltage.
The MCP1258-E/UN is designed to accept a wide input voltage range from 3.3V to 36V. It is ideal for applications that require current of up to 5A. The maximum rated output current of the regulator is 5A, and the maximum output voltage is 24V. It has a wide-range switching frequency from 200kHz to 2.3MHz, which allows for higher efficiency and is adjustable to match the external components.
The MCP1258-E/UN is also over-voltage protected, over-temperature protected, and short-circuit protected. The device features an optional Soft-Start that reduces in-rush current and can be used to program a large load current or to minimize output voltage overshoot at start-up.

The output voltage is driven by the internal voltage error amplifier and compared with the reference voltage to maintain constant output voltage.
The most important feature of this product is the integrated Thevenin Sense Resistors, which senses the load current and provides a feedback voltage to the compensation network. The output voltage is automatically adjusted to maintain the set voltage of the Microchip PWM DC/DC buck regulator. This sensing circuit helps reduce the inductor ripple current and provides a fast transient response for a stable output voltage.
MCP1258-E/UN is a reliable DC/DC buck regulator with integrated circuit protection, wide-range input, adjustable output voltage, low input current, fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation.
