MCP73832T-5ACI/OT Application Field and Working Principle

The MCP73832T-5ACI/OT is a single-cell Li-Ion/Li-polymer Battery Management System (BMS) dedicated to charging such batteries. It has been designed in respect of current battery requirements and industry trend to make charging process easier, simpler and more accurate. The MCP73832T-5ACI/OT belongs to the PMIC - Battery Chargers family of devices, which combine all the highly integrated charging algorithm, configuration and monitoring functions found in the MCP73832T-5ACI/OT.

The MCP73832T-5ACI/OT is designed to charge lithium-ion/lithium-polymer battery cells. With the safety timer and thermal regulation, it protects the battery from over current and over-heating. The pre-programmed parameters of the MCP73832T-5ACI/OT can be adapted to various types of cell chemistries, including Li-ion, Li-polymer and LiFePO4. It also features reverse current protection to prevent reverse charging when the stored battery energy falls below a certain level. This helps extend the life of the battery and increase its safety.

The MCP73832T-5ACI/OT supports three stage charging strategies like constant current/constant voltage (CODV), constant current/variable voltage (CODV), and the constant current/constant power (CCCP) charging modes. In the CODV charging mode, the constant current stage limits output current to a predetermined level, while the constant voltage (CV) stage limits voltage to a predetermined level. In addition, the MCP73832T-5ACI/OT supports advanced charging algorithm such as true power tracking (TPT) and real-time minimum level check (RTML).

The MCP73832T-5ACI/OT is designed to provide advanced features and functions, such as over voltage protection, over temperature protection, low party temperature protection, and under voltage protection.
