The device also offers a wealth of protection features such as safety timers, sleep mode, charge complete detection, and highly accurate charging current setting.The MCP73832-4ADI/MC contains an advanced charge controller, a voltage reference, a current-sense amplifier, a battery regulation comparator, and a dual-charge current regulation loop. It is also equipped with an integrated reverse blocking Schottky diode to eliminate the need for a separate MOSFET for reverse current protection.The MCP73832-4ADI/MC application field is designed for single-cell Li-ion/Li-Polymer batteries as a powerful and easy to use charge controller solution. It provides a wide range of features such as trickle, fast, and pre-charge, temperature, OV, and UV protection, and a digital interface. During charging, the output of the charging amp is compared with that of the voltage reference with a low-pass filter. If the charging amp’s output voltage is higher than the voltage reference, current is drawn from the battery and the charge amp’s output voltage is reduced. If the charging amp’s output voltage is lower than the voltage reference, current is sent to the battery and the charge amp’s output voltage is increased. In this way, a negative feedback loop is established which ensures a stable and accurate charge current.In addition to negative voltage feedback, the MCP73832-4ADI/MC also uses a ΔV/Δt end-of-charge detection technique to bring the battery to its maximum terminal voltage without over-charging it.
