The MCP7940MT-I/ST is a small, two-wire, real-time clock (RTC) that offers a wide range of features for applications requiring precise timing and power-saving capabilities. The clock/calendar function stores seconds, minutes and hours, day, date, month and year information. A variety of time-stamping formats and adjustable date formats allow simple application integration. The programmable square-wave generator output can be used to operate microprocessors or other peripheral devices while the power-saving features, such as accurate timekeeping in low-cost and low-power liquid-crystal displays, can be used to extend battery life of portable and handheld devices. Additionally, the MCP7940MT-I/ST can be used in data logging and other applications that require on-board accurate timekeeping.

The MCP7940MT-I/ST is an extremely low-power, low-cost real-time clock that can work with a coin cell battery or other power supplies. It includes integrated RAM and EEPROM memory and an embedded oscillator to allow for the highest accuracy in timing.
