.Introduction: The MIC4126YME-TR is a power-management integrated circuit (PMIC) specifically developed as a floating-channel gate driver that provides level-shift voltage translation between logic and high-side/low-side N-channel MOSFETs. This floating-channel device can be used with low-side MOSFETs that can tolerate negative gate voltages, such as P-channel MOSFETs.

Working Principle: The MIC4126YME-TR consists of a top-side VGS level-shifter and a bottom-side VGS level-shifter. The VGS top-side level-shifter is a P-channel MOSFET. It works in the following way. First, the P-channel MOSFET turns on, forming a current path through the gate-source capacitor CGS. When the gate-source voltage VGS reaches the MOSFET’s threshold voltage, the P-channel MOSFET turns off, releasing the current stored in the gate-source capacitor CGS. This current turns on the bottom-side N-channel MOSFET, producing a voltage shift in the gate-source voltage VGS. This current also turns on the top-side N-channel MOSFET, thus providing the switching path for the high-side and low-side MOSFETs.
The MIC4126YME-TR provides protection against hazardous conditions such as overvoltage and undervoltage with an integrated self-protection circuit that shuts down the device if an overvoltage or undervoltage condition occurs. It also features fast switching times, up to 25ns, and a wide range of operating temperature from -40°C to 85°C.
