The MIC705N is a supervisor/monitoring device designed to provide system protection and system health monitoring. It is a programmable voltage supervisor designed to keep system voltage under control using two different output power-off methodologies: manual reset, and system reset. The MIC705N can achieve an operating range of up to 6.6V and works at a temperature range of -40 °C – +85 °C.
The primary application fields for the MIC705N are in embedded system designs, industrial control, digital appliance and telemetry applications. In these applications the MIC705N provides robust power protection and system health monitoring. The MIC705N can protect against over/under voltage, over-temperature and over/under-current conditions.
The MIC705N is configurable via a serial external interface. This interface allows users to set voltage thresholds, rising and falling time delays, and program reset mode, auto-reset mode and the currents limiting feature. These settings ensure the MIC705N will alert the system when a particular set-up or failure is detected.
The MIC705N operates at a shutdown voltage range of 0.4V–5.5V, and consumes typically 33µA of DC supply current. Additionally, it features an output voltage that can be changed by the users using two resistors between the output voltage pin (VOUT) and ground. This range supports a wide variety of low power systems.
In order to dismiss the reset output, the MIC705N has a hygiene cycle feature. After the reset event, the MIC705N requires a minimum amount of time in order to enter in the correct operational mode. This feature is important to prevent unintended reset occurrences.
The MIC705N provides over-voltage, over-temperature and under/over-current protection. The over-voltage protection feature will protect the system from power surges and will latch-off the power supply when a voltage over-threshold is detected. This feature also allows the user to select a certain over-voltage threshold and this is programmable. Thus, under a given over-voltage condition, the operating voltage will drop down according to the safety limits the user defines.
The over-temperature protection of the MIC705N helps protect the system from operation outside of its specified temperature range. The MIC705N can detect temperatures of -40 °C to +60 °C and provides a soft-start feature to protect the system when the temperature is getting high, as well as a shut-down outputs when the temperature is going beyond the specified upper limit.
The under/over-current protection of the MIC705N prevents current operations that are beyond the thresholds set for the system. The MIC705N can detect current flows between 0.1A and 8A and, depending on user settings, can shut down the system or shut off the current path as soon as it detects an over-current condition.
The MIC705N is a highly integrated voltage supervisor/monitoring device that provides system protection and system health monitoring in embedded systems, industrial control, digital appliance and telemetry applications. It offers a wide input voltage range, and features adjustable reset threshold and soft start/shutdown temperatures. Its over-current protection and over-voltage protection features provide complete system protection and increase system stability, while the hygiene cycle feature prevents unintentional reset events. The two power-off methods offered by the MIC705N provide further protection in case of power disruption occurrences.
