The MIC706M is a highly efficient 3.0V-5.5V Automatic Power-on Reset and Low Voltage Monitor Supervisory IC from Micrel, Inc. This IC provides a complete power-on reset (POR) and low voltage monitoring solution, from input voltage to output reset signal, without requiring any external components.The MIC706M is designed to monitor a single power supply or multiple power supply rails. For a single power supply, it can be used to monitor both the main power supply, as well as its auxiliary power supply (e.g., such as 5V Standby). For multiple power supplies, the MIC706M can be used to monitor each of the power supply rails.The MIC706M is designed to protect systems from potential damage caused by operational errors, power supply fluctuations and power supply drops. It integrates a comparator, logic control and an input voltage measurement circuit to measure an input voltage in the range of 3.0V to 5.5V. If the input voltage drops below the preset threshold, the MIC706M will assert a POR reset output and an interrupt flag status output. The POR reset is active low and is guaranteed to remain active for at least 100ms. The interrupt flag output is a status indication flag and requires an external pull-up resistor.The MIC706M is also able to monitor multiple input voltages and provide a single reset output and interrupt flag status output. It supports up to 7 selectable power supply voltage levels, with a programmable reset threshold in the range of 1.8V to 3.7V. The reset output is active low and is guaranteed to remain active for at least 400ms.The MIC706M is ideal for embedded applications where system protection is required. It provides an ideal solution for power-sensitive systems, electronic point of sale systems, DSPs and microcontrollers as it resolves the problem of unreliable power supply and reduces the cost of system design.The MIC706M is available in an 8-pin SOIC package and is supported by a range of development kits, evaluation boards and design software.
