Introduction
The MIC7401YFL-T5 is a current mode, step-down DC-DC switching regulator, supplied in a 5-pin SOT-23 package. It is designed for low voltage, high current applications, such as PC/notebook power supplies, USB active cables and PDAs. The MIC7401YFL-T5 is basically designed for PC/notebook power supplies, USB active cables and PDAs. Its wide input voltage range of 2.5V-20V makes it suitable for a variety of different applications. It is also able to operate as a voltage doubler, triple- or quad-hall converter by adding additional components. The MIC7401YFL- T5 can also be used to power up multiple outputs. For example, it can be used to generate two 3.3V outputs and one 1.8V output.Working Principle
The MIC7401YFL-T5 is a current mode, step-down, non-synchronous switching regulator. The regulator consists of an internal high-side P-Channel MOSFET, which is used to switch the input voltage from the power source, and an external N-Channel Mosfet, which regulates the output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by sensing the output voltage of the power source, and by comparing it to the desired output voltage. This comparison is done by the Internal error amplifiers. When an over- or undershoot is detected, the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal, which is generated by the error amplifier, is used to adjust the duty cycle of the switching regulator. This will in turn adjust the output voltage, so that it corresponds to the desired output voltage. The MIC7401YFL-T5 is able to operate in a wide input voltage range and is able to output a low ripple voltage. The device also features built-in thermal shutdown, Over Voltage Protection (OVP), and under voltage protection (UVP).Conclusion
