The two-stage feature requires valid logic level output high and low of the second stage to complete reset of the supply, thus providing extra overvoltage/undervoltage protection and system level reliability.

Application Field and Working Principle

The MIC706SN is designed primarily for power management applications such as residential servers, wireless modems, and portable digital devices, where good system reliability and safety are important. The MIC706SN can also be used in applications where prolonged brownouts may occur and the device can provide overvoltage protection, limiting the output voltage to a preset level, reducing the stress on power supplies and system components.The MIC706SN typically contains two operating modes: a Trip-Reset mode and a Brownout Detection mode. In the Trip-Reset mode, the device trips when the supply voltage reaches the Trip level and resets the supply when the voltage drops below the Reset level. The MIC706SN can be set to trip at any value between 4.0V and 6.0V, and reset between 2.4V and 2.7V. The Brownout Detection mode allows the user to adjust the upper and lower trips to detect when the voltage drops below 4.5V or rises above 4.8V.The MIC706SN monitors the input voltage, which is the difference between the supply voltage and the reference voltage, with a 0.5V bandgap voltage reference. The trip and reset points are programmed using external resistors.
