TVS-diodes, also known as Transient Voltage Suppressor diodes, are designed to protect equipment against transient voltage overshoots or spikes. The MSMCGLCE11A is a unidirectional, dual-channel TVS-diode designed to provide maximum protection for data interfaces over small form factor implementations.

Application Field

The MSMCGLCE11A is designed for use in data line protection applications such as SATA, USB, HDMI and FPD-Link which are sometimes exposed to potentially damaging voltage overshoots during their operation. The device also offers numerous advantages such as 1-line protection, low capacitance, fast response time and superior clamping performance. The device offers peaks of up to plus or minus 8kV/16kV ESD protection, as well as up to a 600W peak pulse power capability.

Working Principle

The MSMCGLCE11A consists of two clamping elements, each with a pair of Zener diodes and a pair of fast-acting avalanche diodes connected back-to-back in a unique configuration. This arrangement makes the device highly effective at limiting voltage transients. When a transient voltage overshoot occurs, the Zener diode blocks the excess voltage, while the avalanche diodes quickly conduct a large current, allowing the excess charge to be discharged in a controlled manner. The combination of the Zener and avalanche diodes allows the device to offer superior clamping performance even while subject to very high transient voltage environments.

In addition to its electrical characteristics, the MSMCGLCE11A also offers several physical advantages. It is small, measuring just 2 × 2 × 0.8mm in size, and is capable of offering bidirectional transient protection for up to 600W, making it well suited for a variety of applications.
